Fortress Stabilization Case Study

Wisconsin Overhead Slab Reinforcement

This Wisconsin basement below a garage was experiencing significant deterioration of the substrate and rebar reinforcement steel. Appleton, Wisconsin based Basement Repair Specialists was contracted to make the repairs.

The project was complete in three steps. First, the steel was treated with a rust inhibitor to preserve as much strength as possible, while the steel that unsalvageable was removed. Second, the surface was re-covered by drilling holes into the garage floor above and injecting a cement based mixture. The bottom side was covered with plywood held in place with 4x4 posts to hold the mixture while it cured. Finally, Fortress ReGrid Carbon Fiber / Kevlar® straps were installed to provide adequate strength to compensate for the steel loss. The straps were anchored into the adjacent walls using the Fortress carbon plate anchor. This allows for effective structural load transference, assuring this slab will not experience a repeat failure.

A small vertical crack in the wall was also stitched using Fortress crack stitches and filled with epoxy.
