Fortress Stabilization Case Study

New Home Foundation Repair in Tennessee

Corner Cracks and Hillside Settlement Resolved with Fortress Reinforcement Systems

The Challenge

A newly built home in Tennessee, located near a lake and surrounded by uneven terrain, began showing signs of foundation distress. Multiple corner cracks appeared in both the main residence and an adjacent pool house. The cause was traced to excessive gravel backfill, which placed uneven pressure on the concrete block walls, leading to structural cracking—particularly at the vulnerable corners.

The Solution

Acculevel, a Fortress certified contractor, was hired to complete the repairs. Corum Engineering provided engineering services to design a comprehensive structural reinforcement plan. The solution included:

  • Pool House Foundation Rebuild:
Due to the extent of the damage, the pool house foundation was partially rebuilt and reinforced using Fortress Carbon Corner Braces to stabilize each compromised corner.

  • Main Residence Foundation Repair:
For the main home, a combination of core fills and rebar reinforcement was used to rebuild internal support. Then, Fortress Carbon Corner Braces were installed to provide targeted corner stability, and horizontal ReGrid™ Carbon/Kevlar® straps were added to further strengthen the block walls across larger areas.

The Outcome

With both buildings now reinforced using ICC-certified Fortress technology, the property is structurally sound and protected from future stress caused by soil movement and landscape grading. The combination of Carbon Corner Braces and ReGrid straps offers long-term durability with minimal disruption to the home’s aesthetics.

Why It Matters

Even new construction isn't immune to foundation issues—especially on properties with variable terrain or improper backfill. This project proves that modern carbon fiber reinforcement can correct serious structural problems quickly, cleanly, and with lasting results.
