Fortress Stabilization Case Study

1970’s ERA Poured Wall Foundation

2.5 Inches of Inward Deflection Stabilized with InvisiBeam®

The Challenge

A 1971-built home in Northbrook, Illinois was showing signs of significant foundation distress. The basement walls had developed visible cracks, water intrusion, and a concerning inward deflection of up to 2.5 inches. Left unaddressed, this level of bowing could compromise the structural integrity of the wall, and ongoing moisture issues could lead to further deterioration.

The Solution

The Real Seal, a certified Fortress contractor, was selected to reinforce the failing wall and prevent future damage. Their solution involved:

  • 15 Fortress InvisiBeam® Carbon Fiber Straps:
These ICC-certified, carbon fiber/Kevlar® straps were installed to stabilize the wall and permanently stop inward movement. Anchored at both the top and bottom, the InvisiBeam system delivers over five times the strength of steel without taking up living space.

  • Ported Crack Injection:
The existing cracks were sealed using a ported epoxy injection process, ensuring the wall was bonded tightly to prevent water intrusion and restore structural continuity.

The Outcome

The foundation wall is now fully reinforced and protected from further movement and moisture. With the combination of InvisiBeam stabilization and epoxy crack repair, the homeowner has peace of mind knowing the problem was addressed using long-term, high-performance materials.

Why It Matters

This project demonstrates how even severe deflection—over two inches—can be corrected with non-invasive, proven technology. The Fortress InvisiBeam system is code-compliant, aesthetically discreet, and engineered for permanent performance. It's a smart, modern alternative to bulky steel I-beams or full wall replacement.
