Fortress Stabilization Case Study
Carbon Fiber Reinforcement of a Bowing Basement Wall
Certified Carbon Fiber Wall Reinforcement in Winchester, TN
The Challenge
A homeowner in Winchester, Tennessee, was experiencing structural issues due to horizontal deflection in a 10-foot tall hollow concrete masonry unit (HCMU) basement wall. The wall had begun to bow inward, presenting a risk to the long-term stability of the structure and requiring a certified, code-compliant repair solution.
The Solution
United Structural Systems selected Fortress InvisiBeam®, the only carbon fiber system with ICC-ES certification and structural anchoring capabilities. The team installed 18 vertical carbon fiber/Kevlar® straps at 32 inches on center, ensuring an engineered distribution of reinforcement. To further enhance stability, horizontal straps were installed at four-foot intervals, starting two feet from the top of the wall.
This dual-directional grid of InvisiBeam® provides true structural anchoring to the foundation and rim joist, creating a comprehensive solution that far outperforms traditional steel beams and unanchored carbon fiber products.
The Outcome
The wall was permanently stabilized using a non-corrosive system that won’t degrade over time. The homeowner received a transferable, life of the wall warranty, backed by both United Structural Systems and Fortress Stabilization Systems. With InvisiBeam®, the structure now meets modern performance standards and is protected by the most robust carbon fiber system on the market.
Why It Matters
InvisiBeam® is the industry’s only ICC-certified carbon fiber wall reinforcement system, combining the durability of carbon fiber and Kevlar® with engineered structural anchoring. It delivers unmatched performance and longevity, outperforming all steel beam and other carbon fiber systems—making it the trusted choice for code-compliant, permanent basement wall repairs.
